Saturday @ 7pm: Russia vs Croatia
Story of the Tie
Russia were supposed to be terrible. They were supposed to fail horribly. They were supposed to be the worst Russia Team for years….and here we are. They have performed admirably and will surely stick to their tactic against Spain of a 5-man defence.
Croatia had impressed so much, before a terribly uninspiring penalty shoot-out victory over Denmark. That Argentina victory looks a long time ago now. They need to kick back into gear. This is the perfect opportunity.
What’s been said
“Spain have more quality than Russia but I think it would have been easier for Croatia to have played against Spain, who were knocked out by Russia, than the hosts.” – Former Croatia Manager Slaven Bilic
“Of course, we respect the generation of ‘98 very much because they achieved the greatest success for Croatian football and the Croatian national team. This has always been, I can even say, some kind of a burden to be better than them. Twenty years have passed and no one has managed to do anything in this regard.” – Croatian Defender Dejan Lovren
Croatia to dominate and Russia to soak up pressure before trying to score on the break. Like the Sweden-England game, this will not be entertaining. Croatia to snatch a 1-0 victory.
