Thursday @ 3pm: Senegal vs Colombia, Japan vs Poland

Story of the Group

Absolute chaos in what has been a fantastic group.  The first round blew it all wide open as the unfancied pair of Japan and Senegal beat the favourites Colombia and Poland.  Round 2 kept it going with Japan and Senegal drawing before Colombia produced a mammoth performance to knock-out Poland.  With 4 teams from 4 different continents, this really has been a “World Cup” group.

What they need

A draw would be enough for Senegal and Japan to qualify, but Colombia need a win.  Top spot could be claimed by anyone, bar Poland who are already out.

What’s been said

“I think we prepared ourselves to come back to the World Cup one more time after 2014 and try to deliver results, and results haven’t been bad in our last two games.” – Japan Player Keisuke Honda

“A player like Sadio Mane is a player with a lot of expectations and he is one of the players under the spotlight.  He can do better, but today he was better than against Poland and he needs to do better against Colombia.” – Senegal Manager Aliou Cisse on star player Sadio Mane

“He’s had a hard time. We want to share this win with him.  The whole squad feels the same.” – Colombian Manager Jose Pekerman on his player Carlos Sanchez receiving death threats over his handball in the first game

“I remember your great goals during the last World Cup. I hope you will remember mine from Russia.” – a Robert Lewandowski tweet to James Rodriguez before the tournament….awkward…

Japan to get a bore draw versus Poland, whilst Colombia will replicate their form from the second game to beat Senegal and get through.
